Nice Curvy Bit O Wood

Today I lobbed some wood into the steam box for about 6 months and then used the nail gun and about 2 boxes of nails on it to put the finish on the curve of the former.
After touching it up with some sandpaper it looked good enough to sell to a pikey for herrings and a brand new Commodore 64k.

Then I used the thicknesser machine and took down some red deal to about 2.5mm for practise bending by hand with an electric bending iron. wood was then soaked in water to stop it from scorching up but it seems alright for a first attempt.

The Artist Formerly Known as Former

Today we started on the formers of the guitar. There are 2 types of guitar to choose from the OOO and the Dreadnought, i chose the latter. dunno why, dont question it.

Anyways, the former is basically a mold that is used for the sides of the guitar.

this is the shape of the side of the guitar, two pieces of wood are cut the exact same and then small lengths of wood are inserted between them to look like this below, good stuff eh? well dont ask me i just butcher bits of wood for a few hours!

Boys N da Wood

So today we start back into the old Ins Tech.
we are now situated in Blyry industrial estate which is located about 17 furlongs from the college, give or take a few meters.
Today we were given the guided tour of the new super mangling woodwork machines by Gary Mannion.
It definitely didn't take much for us to get freaked about being amputees and all that.
well as long as i have fingers I'll be updating the blog on a regular basis..

good boo.
